Not Getting Enough Leads? Stop Guessing and Let Your Market Tell You

I hear the same question from business owners all the time: why am I not getting enough leads?
Usually they're already running paid ads. The money is going out. The leads aren't coming in, or they're coming in at a cost that doesn't make sense.
Most of the time, the problem isn't the ads. It's the guessing that happened before the ads ever went live.
Why am I not getting enough leads?
Because most campaigns start backwards.
We decide on the service. We decide on the offer. Then we write the landing page, pick the image, build the ads and write the emails people get after they sign up. All of it is built on a guess about what our customers want to hear.
Nobody checked the guess first.
We like to think we know what our customers want. We don't know that until they tell us. When the market picks the message before you spend real money, the same budget reaches more of the right people.
How do I know what to say in my ads?
You don't decide it in a meeting. You let your market vote.
That means finding the words your ideal customers actually use. The problems they say out loud, think to themselves, and share with friends and family. Then you put those words in front of real people with real ads and see which ones they respond to.
The winners become the foundation. They decide what your ads say, what problem you promise to solve, and what you offer in exchange for someone's contact information. That's what gives you the confidence that you know what to say.
Can I get leads without a big ad budget?
Yes.
Before you put real money behind anything, use a small budget to test each step. The ad platforms are happy to let you spend a lot while you figure it out. You don't need to. You do not need to spend thousands of dollars to validate an idea.
Once the market has picked the message and the offer, real budget doesn't have to be huge. Ten, fifteen or twenty dollars a day goes a lot further when it's going to the right people with a message they already responded to. That's how you protect your budget.
What happens when you stop guessing?
Your cost per lead tends to drop. When your cost per lead drops, your cost to win each customer usually drops with it, and that makes you more profitable.
You also start building something that lasts. More people come into your pipeline. Some are ready to say yes right away. Most aren't, and that's fine. They're on your email list and your text list, and that list keeps growing.
That's how you turn leads into customers on a consistent basis.
What should happen after someone fills out my form?
When owners tell me they want more leads, what they usually mean is they want more people who book themselves in, already know they need you, and are ready to pay. We all love those. They're the easy sales.
But in my experience, most people who become a lead, often 85% or more, are not ready to buy yet. Maybe the money isn't there right now. Maybe they're in a different season of their business. They know they'll need you down the line. They're just not there today.
So when someone fills out your form, the relationship starts.
First, they get what they signed up for, right away. Then an email sequence welcomes them and builds trust, so they learn that when you write to them, it's worth opening. After that, you keep showing up: a client win, something new in your business, something useful you learned.
Every email gives them one small, easy next step. Book a call. Or just reply and start a conversation. You keep giving them the chance to raise their hand when they're ready.
The people who say yes right away are great. But the foundation of your business is built on the ones who aren't ready yet. Stay in touch with them, and when they're ready, they'll come to you.
